Benefact Trust welcomes a new Chair to lead the grant-making charity
David brings with him the passion, leadership, and vision to drive our grant-making forwards, building on the Trust’s transformative funding that has reached over £310 million since the charity was established in 1972.
A proven leader with a clear vision
David has many years’ experience leading organisations to success. Some noteworthy highlights include a 22-year career at the private banking firm Kleinwort Hambros (now Union Bancaire Privée) where he held positions including CEO and Chair. And more recently, David has held Non-Executive Chair positions for Majedie Investments plc, Alder Investment Management Limited, and Ecclesiastical Insurance.
David is currently Chair of Benefact Group* until the end of 2025, a role which has given him the in-depth knowledge and insight of our organisation to build on our grant-making and help us make an even bigger impact in society.
David Henderson, the new Chair for Benefact Trust, said: “I’m honoured to join Benefact Trust at such a pivotal time, as we continue to drive innovation and impact through our grant-making. The opportunity to work alongside churches and charities to create lasting change is deeply inspiring, and I’m privileged to be involved in empowering these incredible organisations.”
A warm thanks to our former Chair, Tim Carroll
David will be following in the footsteps of Tim Carroll, who has led and inspired the team and trustees for the past six years. Our heartfelt thanks go to Tim, whose leadership and guidance has been vital in shaping who the Trust is today.
During his time as Benefact Trust Chair, Tim has expanded the reach and impact of the Trust and has overseen the successful rebrand from Allchurches Trust to Benefact Trust – marking our broader commitment to social impact and community empowerment.
Tim Carroll, former Chair for Benefact Trust, said: “I warmly welcome David to his new position as Benefact Trust Chair. David is a confident, skilled, and experienced leader and I’m certain that under his guidance the Trust will continue to make a huge difference to churches, charities, and communities. I have greatly enjoyed my time with Benefact Trust and I look forward to seeing how the Trust evolves over the next few years.”
What does a new Chair mean for Benefact Trust?
David’s wealth of experience and knowledge of Benefact Group and Benefact Trust, makes him the perfect fit to grow and develop the Trust. He joins a board of nine trustees – a mix of finance professionals and church leaders. With the support of the trustees, David will be guiding and leading our dedicated Benefact Trust team, as we strive to equip and empower churches and Christian charities across the UK and Ireland. Standing alongside these organisations as they tackle major social issues.
In 2024, Benefact Trust awarded a record £25.5 million to churches, charities, and communities. Our Community Impact Grants are expected to have reached over £5 million people with essential support. With the guidance of David and the commitment of the team, we’re excited to see what we can achieve going forwards.
