Podcast | Prison To Purpose: Community Chaplaincy Association On Supporting Rehabilitation

From prison gates to new beginnings

In this episode of our Beyond Funding podcast, we sit down with Simon Tarlton from Community Chaplaincy Association (CCA) – an organisation of Community Chaplaincies supporting people leaving prison to make a fresh start.

Simon talks about the importance of carrying on chaplaincy beyond the prison gates, and the impact this can have for prison leavers who are trying to reintegrate into society with little to no support system.

We discuss some challenging topics in this episode, such as the current state of the prison system and whether prison leavers deserve a second chance. Throughout the episode, Simon has some really insightful answers to these questions and highlights how CCA’s work doesn’t just have an impact on prison leavers, but a positive impact on society.

Benefact Trust is privileged to support CCA with a £180,000 grant to seed fund new community chaplaincy projects in underrepresented regions of the UK.

The fifteenth Beyond Funding podcast: ‘Prison To Purpose: Community Chaplaincy Association On Supporting Rehabilitation’ is available on Youtube and Spotify.

The proportions of people who leave prisons to no fixed abode is mind-blowing, it’s around 40-50% of prison leavers. That’s very often the cause of the reoffending pattern as we just keep kicking people out of prison with nowhere apart from the streets to live.
