The season of giving: over £270,000 funding awarded to Methodist Churches
Benefact Trust’s Methodist Grants Programme is funded by donations from Methodist Insurance PLC and exists to support Methodist churches, strengthening their mission and ministry by funding essential building improvements and repairs.
In the latest round of funding, the Methodist Grants Programme is helping to create welcoming spaces, improve accessibility, and support sustainability - ensuring Methodist churches remain at the heart of their communities.
Here's some of the recent grants:
Methodist Central Hall, Coventry - £130,000
Coventry’s iconic Central Hall, approaching its 100th anniversary, is set for a major transformation. The project will upgrade toilet and lift facilities and redevelop the entrance to improve accessibility and open-up underused spaces. These changes will make the building fit for purpose for the next 100 years, ensuring it continues to serve charities, community groups, and individuals at the heart of the city.
The Spire Church, Surrey - £100,000
Welcoming around 75,000 people every year, The Spire Church is embarking on a three-phase refurbishment project to repair and modernise its historic building. A Methodist Grant will help fund rewiring, new audio-visual systems, improved heating, and a café kitchen upgrade. This will create a more sustainable, welcoming church for worship and community outreach, encouraging even more visitors to this beautiful building.
Wetherby Methodist Church, West Yorkshire - £25,000
With rising energy costs threatening vital community work, Wetherby Methodist Church is taking bold steps towards sustainability. Methodist funding will help install solar panels, a battery system, an air source heat pump, and improved insulation. These changes will not only help to reduce bills and support the Methodist Church’s net zero goals, but it will also make the church a warm, affordable space for local groups.
Admaston Methodist Church, Shropshire - £13,000
Admaston is a thriving hub for community activities, from a weekly ‘Warm Space’ group to support people through the winter months, to monthly lunches and games groups to bring the community together. A Methodist Grant will help to fund improved accessibility and flexibility by replacing pews with chairs, installing a new audio-visual system, adding a ramp, and repairing the perimeter wall - ensuring the church stays safe and inclusive for all.
Together, these projects reflect the true spirit of Christmas - creating spaces of warmth, belonging, and hope for communities.
